Faivre’s drum filters are the workhorses of land-based aquaculture and aquaponics. Built in France and used in hatcheries, RAS, and broodstock systems worldwide, every Faivre drum filter shares the same self-cleaning drum design — what changes between series is throughput.
Choose your Series below to match your flow rate. We’ll quote pricing, tank or frame configuration (SS 304L, SS 2205, AISI 316L, or HDPE), mesh size (15 µm to 500 µm), and motor voltage to suit your site.
One filter, six sizes:
| Series | Drum Ø | Indicative max flow (60 µm) | Typical use |
|---|---|---|---|
| 40 | 400 mm | up to ~43,000 LPH | Hatchery, small RAS, aquaponics |
| 60 | 600 mm | up to ~160,000 LPH | Hatchery, medium RAS |
| 80 | 800 mm | up to ~370,000 LPH | Commercial RAS, broodstock |
| 120 | 1,200 mm | up to ~850,000 LPH | Large RAS, salmon smolt |
| 160 | 1,600 mm | up to ~2,300,000 LPH | Large land-based farms |
| 200 | 2,000 mm | up to ~3,000,000 LPH | Major commercial sites |
Flow rates depend on mesh size and solids load. We size every system from your site water quality and design flow — talk to us before specifying.
How it works: Water enters the drum and flows outward through a rotating filter screen. Suspended solids are captured on the screen surface — stainless steel or nylon mesh depending on your specification — while a level sensor triggers a short backwash spray cycle when head loss builds up. On the 80 Series and above, spider screens can replace standard filter plates to distribute solids loading across a wider surface area. No daily handling, no consumables.
Configurations:
- SS tank — stainless-steel housing, the standard fit-and-forget option
- Frame only — drum on a frame for installation into your existing concrete or HDPE tank
- Frame with pipe inlet — frame model with a pre-fitted inlet pipe
- HDPE tank — recommended for warm or aggressive seawater applications
The 200 Series ships as a frame unit only, designed to drop into a 1.2–1.45 m water depth concrete channel.
Drum material is selected to suit your water: AISI 304L for fresh water, AISI 316L for cold seawater, or duplex SS 2205 for warm seawater and aggressive conditions.
Mesh sizes: Standard screens are 15, 26, 36, 63, and 80 microns, with nylon screens available up to 500 µm. Mesh choice trades capture rate against flow capacity — we’ll match it to the solids load you’re filtering. Order replacement screens here.
Spider screens (80–200 Series): The current generation of Faivre spider screens is compatible with the 80, 120, 160, and 200 Series. Each screen is reinforced with a second layer of 300-micron nylon mesh and fitted with updated seals for improved longevity. Upgrading from standard plates requires a new tensioner; the combined cost of spider screen plus tensioner sits below the price of a single standard plate —leading to no extra capital outlay. Why Faivre: Faivre have been building Faivre drum filters in France for over 30 years and supply parts and service support globally. Spare parts are stocked in Australia by Fresh by Design — screens are interchangeable across the range, and we keep replacement plates, solenoids, spray bars, and gear motors on the shelf.
Drum filters are sized to the site, so please contact us with your design flow, water source (fresh / brackish / sea), and target mesh. We’ll come back with the right Series, configuration, and lead time.
