CLIENT: Taronga Western Plains Zoo

YEAR: 2022

We are proud to announce we have been contracted to supply and install multiple Platypus refuge and exhibit systems for Taronga Western Plains Zoo as part of the Taronga Platypus Conservation Centre.

This new facility will protect and conserve wild platypus populations by providing platypus refuges, consisting of interconnected aquatic and earthen habitat systems, conservation and breeding research systems and a platypus exhibit, open to the public for community education and engagement.

For this project we will be supplying and installing:

5 x Refuge systems (80 x 7000L Tanks in total)

2 x Research systems

1 x Exhibit system

All systems are recirculating with Life Support Systems (LSS) including:

  • Drum Filters
  • Moving Bed Bio-filters (MBBR)
  • Freshwater Protein Skimmers
  • AFM Media Filters
  • UV Sterilizers
  • Compact Filtration Skids
  • Recirculation Pumps with VFD’s
  • Air Blowers
  • Temperature Control System
  • Ozone Generators
  • Water Quality Monitoring and Control System

These systems have been designed to provide optimal water quality for the platypus and ease of use for all operations staff.

We are thrilled to be working on this project with Taronga Zoo and David Payne Constructions as the primary contractor.
