How is a Flow Cannon sized?
Not on a duty point, because it generates no meaningful head. Size it on the volume of water you need to keep turning over and the throw required across the tank, then check the unit will physically mount where you need it. Send us the tank dimensions and the turnover you are after and we will work out the unit count.
Which of the three models do I need?
Scale and depth rating. The AFC150 compact is 54,000 LPH nominal, needs 0.4 m minimum submersion and is rated to 2.5 m immersion. The AFC400 is 165,000 LPH and the AFC1200 is 460,000 LPH — both need 0.6 m minimum submersion and are rated to 8 m, which usually settles the choice on a deep exhibit. The AFC150 also runs in reverse; the larger models do not.
What cable length should I order?
Cable length is fixed at the time of order and is not a field change, so it needs working out from the distance between the pump position and where the driver will sit. The AFC150 is offered in 4 m and 7 m, and the AFC400 and AFC1200 in 10 m and 30 m. The 30 m option includes an Abyzz Range Extender. Measure the real cable route, not the straight-line distance.
Can they be mounted out of the water?
No. All models mount submersed only, and the minimum submersion depth must be respected — 0.4 m for the AFC150, 0.6 m for the AFC400 and AFC1200.
What mounting options are available?
The AFC150 has three mounting holes in its rear plate for customer-specific mounting, with a magnetic mount available separately. The AFC400 has a full titanium mounting range — wall, corner, reef rod, mounting pipe in 0.5, 1 and 2 m lengths, clamps, an adjustable pipe mount, and ceiling and wall pipe mounts. All mounts are supplied separately and wall-side fixings are not included.
Will the flow damage stock or scour the tank?
The integrated flow straightener and, on the AFC400, a coat flow ring are there to avoid exactly that — the stream is laminar and the maximum discharge speed is low, from 3.3 to 4.5 m/s across the range, which is why these suit large display and life support systems.
Abyzz pumps carry a manufacturer warranty which extends to a 10-year limited lifetime warranty once the pump is registered, at no additional cost, in line with the manufacturer’s warranty rules. Incorrect installation, neglect, misuse, flooding, corrosion, power faults, unauthorised modification and wear parts such as O-rings and seals are excluded.
Stock position moves, so ask us before you plan around a date. As at September 2026 the AFC150 is on backorder with a minimum lead time of around 4 to 6 weeks for the next shipment.
