Fresh By Design completed the design, supply, installation and commissioning of the Macquarie Perch Recovery Centre at Snobs Creek for the Victorian Fisheries Authority, supporting captive breeding and recovery of endangered native fish species.
The facility comprises five independent recirculating aquaculture systems (RAS), including broodstock, spawning, incubation, fry rearing, trout cod and a dedicated quarantine system, providing high levels of biosecurity and operational separation.
The system overview includes broodstock systems with multiple tank sizes (5,000 L, 2,000 L, 1,000 L, 500 L), Macquarie Perch spawning, incubation and fry rearing, Trout Cod incubation and larval rearing, a quarantine system for isolation and health management, and a central plant room with consistent filtration across all systems.
The broodstock room needed full operational flexibility and a high level of biosecurity, so each individual tank had to be able to be supplied from two different RAS systems and source waters as required.
Five independent RAS with a central plant room using consistent filtration across all systems. Each broodstock tank can be supplied from two different RAS systems and source waters, enabling flexible tank allocation, adaptive broodstock management and a high level of operational safety through system and water-source segregation.
The project supports long-term conservation outcomes through robust, flexible and biosecure hatchery infrastructure, delivered in close collaboration with Victorian Fisheries Authority teams.
