Fresh By Design completed a salmonid feed trial facility for Petuna at Cressy, Tasmania. The facility is a collaboration between Petuna Aquaculture, BioMar and Skretting, and is used to trial salmonid diets using the same water, fish and staff that Petuna use in their commercial runs, enabling real world testing. It gives the Tasmanian aquaculture industry the ability to further refine commercial diets tailored to local conditions and practices. The facility runs 18 x 1000 L tanks on flow through. Each tank features an automatic Arvo-Tec feeder with individual dosing control via the Wolf Controller or PC, and air diffusers for normal conditions plus an emergency oxygen dosing system that supplies oxygen to each tank in the event of a low DO reading or power failure. Water exiting the facility is returned to Petuna’s larger recirculation system, where it is filtered and reused.
18 x 1000 L Polymaster poly tanks with level control boxes running flow-through, each with an Arvo-Tec feeder under individual dosing control via the WOLF Controller or PC. Aeration via an air blower with air diffusers in every tank, backed by an emergency oxygen system with an oxy diffuser per tank and a control manifold that injects O2 on low DO or power failure. Monitoring and control via an OxyGuard Pacific unit (supplied by Technolab) measuring dissolved oxygen, temperature and sump water level, with a DO/temp sensor in every tank. Water return to Petuna’s existing recirculation system is managed by a set-and-forget system that self-adjusts to changing flow rates using an IFM ultrasonic level sensor, a Grundfos variable frequency drive and a Waterco pump.
