Ultra Aqua UVT Meter

UVT is the fraction of 254 nm light that passes through a 10 mm water sample — it is as decisive as flow rate in UV sizing, so a flow rating quoted without a UVT tells you nothing about the dose you will actually get.

You can as a starting point, but water that looks clear can have a poor UVT if it carries dissolved iron, manganese or organics, and the error goes straight into your delivered dose — measure it on the water the UV will actually see.

Before sizing a new system, and periodically afterwards — a falling UVT means your installed UV is delivering less than its design dose at the same flow, without anything appearing to be wrong.

It narrows it down fast — if the UVT has dropped, the water has changed; if the UVT is fine, look at lamp age and quartz sleeve fouling instead.

Standard closed-vessel and open channel UV ranges are the wrong choice below 70% UVT, and you need a low-UVT series — which is exactly why measuring first saves money.
