MBBR Bio Balls – Efficient Filtration Media for Aquaculture and Wastewater Treatment

MBBR Bio Balls are designed for high-efficiency filtration, supporting effective biological water treatment in aquaculture, aquariums, industrial waste processing, and sewage treatment systems. Suitable for both freshwater and saltwater applications these bio media balls provide an optimal environment for beneficial bacteria colonization, enhancing water quality and promoting a stable ecosystem

Key features include:

  • High Surface Area for Bacteria Growth: With a 40mm size and 300 m²/m³ surface area, each bio ball provides ample space for nitrifying bacteria to thrive, converting ammonia and nitrites into safer nitrates, enhancing water quality.
  • Optimised Flow Dynamics: The spherical design with an intricate internal structure maximises water flow, preventing clogging and channeling within filters.
  • High Void Ratio (87%): Allows for smooth water flow while maximising bacterial colonisation to maintain aerobic conditions.
  • Versatility: Compatible with various filtration systems, including canister filters, trickle filters, wet/dry filters, and sump systems. Can be used as standalone biological media or in combination with other filtration materials.
  • Neutrally Buoyant & Durable: Made from virgin polyethylene, these bio balls are neutrally buoyant and highly durable, requiring low maintenance.
  • Self-Cleaning: Minimal upkeep is needed—just a quick rinse to remove debris while preserving essential bacterial colonies.

Available in Different Quantities & Colours

Installation and Usage Instructions:

  1. Initial Preparation: Rinse the Bio Balls with dechlorinated water or aquarium water to remove any dust or manufacturing residues before use.
  2. Placement: Position the Bio Balls in the biological filtration chamber of your filter system, ensuring even distribution to maximize contact with the water flow.
  3. Maintenance: Periodically inspect and rinse the Bio Balls with aquarium water to remove detritus and maintain optimal performance. Avoid using tap water, as chlorine can harm beneficial bacteria.
